#LIGHTSARED PAINTED THE TOWN (AND COUNTRY) RED

From Table Mountain in Cape Town and the Hilton College in the KZN Midlands, to the Mystic Boer in Bloemfontein and the Northcliff Water Tower in Johannesurg, landmarks and event venues in South Africa came together to raise awareness around the plight of the events industry in South Africa. This is the #LightSARed campaign.

For five months, the South African events industry has been forced to shut down completely as part of government’s aim to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The effect on the industry has been immense, and the numbers of jobs lost has increased as the months went by.

The #LightSARed campaign is the local version of similar campaigns held in the UK and Germany. The South African version was organised by non-profit organisation LightSARed.

To participate and create awareness around the campaign, people were asked to light anything in red on Wednesday the 5th of August from 6PM to 8PM.

And South Africans definitely came to the party...
