LONDON’S TOWER BRIDGE IS STUCK OPEN

Tower Bridge in London was left stuck open on Monday afternoon. This happened after the bridge’s bascules were opened to allow a tall ship to pass through.

Once this kind of tall ships pass through, the bascules are usually closed again to allow traffic and pedestrians to make use of the bridge and cross the River Thames.

Due to a technical fault, the famous London landmark was left open and it brought traffic in that part of central London to a grinding halt.

Pedestrians, cars and buses were informed that they would either have to wait for the bridge to open again or they could turn around and take another route.

Police advised drivers to avoid the area completely.

The City of London Corporation said in a statement that they were working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

The London Fire Brigade was called in to assist with the issue that’s yet to be resolved.

iTV reports that before lockdown Tower Bridge was one of the capital’s busiest Thames crossing used by more than 40,000 people every day.
