MASSIVE CAR RECALL IN SA
Seven different car brands in South Africa have been affected by the latest recall by the National Consumer Commission (NCC).
The brands affected are Audi, Chrysler, Citroen, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and VW.
Audi’s e-tron GT sports car is being recalled because of a potential fault in the high-voltage battery. There are 46 cars produced from 27 October 2021 that have been identified as being potentially affected by the battery issue.
The Chrysler 300C is being recalled as part of the Takata airbag campaign. According to Stellantis South Africa, “the passenger airbag inflator may rupture due to excessive internal pressure during normal airbag deployment events”.
Stellantis South Africa is also recalling the Citroen C4’s DS4 and DS5 models due to possible problems with airbags.
“The potentially high energetic deployment of the inflator may lead to metal fragments detaching from the bursting inflator, and these parts could fly in the direction of the driver or occupants in the vehicle,” said Stellantis.
The Jeep Wrangler is also being recalled due to the Takata airbag issue, as is the Chrysler 300C.
Stellantis said: “The passenger airbag inflator may rupture due to excessive internal pressure during normal airbag deployment events.”
Mercedes-Benz is recalling the CLA and the S-Class models because the design of the brake hoses could become problematic later.
The recalled cars are those produced between 2020 and 2023.
Volvo’s XC90 SUV sold between 2020 and 2022 is being recalled because of a potential issue with the high-voltage battery.
VW is recalling the Polo Sedan sold from 2 April 2025 due to the latch plates for the rear seatbelts being produced with insufficient hardness.
