MICHELIN GUIDE UNVEILS ANNUAL LIST

For a French restaurant, the ultimate stamp of approval is to be featured in the Michelin Guide. The annual guide contains a list of the best restaurants in the world specialising in gourmet cuisine.

The Michel Guide was unveiled during a glitzy ceremony held in the Loire Valley in France.

Some restaurants are so highly acclaimed that they receive two stars while others receive three stars.

At this year’s ceremony, 62 restaurants were awarded at least one star. Most of them joined the prestigious club for the first time. Out of the 62, 23 of them have been open for less than 12 months.

There are now a total of 534 restaurants with one star, 75 with two stars and only 30 restaurants in the entire world with three Michelin stars.

Eugenie Beziat is only one of six women who have earned stars over the years. Beziat was honoured at this year’s ceremony for her innovative African-inspired cooking as the head chef at The Espadon at the Paris Ritz.

“Hopefully I’m here to inspire (other women) but I don’t have the answers. Everyone has a place in my kitchen as long as they work hard.”
