JD SPORTS TO OPEN IN SA

The British sports-fashion retailer JD Sports is heading to South African shores. That’s according to an announcement made by The Foschini Group (TFG).

TFG has signed a franchise agreement with JD Sports and will be selling famous international sports brands like Puma, Adidas and Nike. It will also sell private labels like Supply & Demand as well as Pink Soda.

Anthony Thurnstrom, TFG’s CEO, said welcoming JD Sports to the stable strengthens the group’s sports offering even more.

“We are excited to be the exclusive partner of JD Sports in South Africa. This partnership allows TFG to bring a new compelling international sports fashion offering to the South African market.

“This further bolsters our existing sports positioning, without Sportscene, Totalsports and Sneaker Factory stores already being the destinations of choice for athletic and leisure sports apparel.”

The agreement between the two companies means TFG will open 40 JD Stores over the course of the next five years across South Africa.

Business Tech reports that the implementation of the agreement is still, however, subject to Exchange Control approval from the Financial Surveillance Department of the South African Reserve Bank.
