COLIN FIRTH’S SHIRT SELLS FOR $25,000
A white button-down shirt worn by Colin Firth in the movie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice has sold for $25,000.
The shirt was worn by the actor during the filming of the 1995 adaptation of the Jane Austen novel. During the scene, Mr Darcy, played by Firth, goes for an impromptu swim in a lake while still fully clothed.
In the famous scene, the shirt is wet, but when it went on the auction it was dry.
It was estimated that the white linen shirt would fetch around $12,700 but when the auction took place, it reached almost double the amount.
What makes this shirt so special and unique, is that it was designed by Dinah Collin and features a label from Costumier Cosprop. The label reads CP Darcy Wet shirt.
The shirt was one of many garments auctioned off in aid of charity. The Bright Foundation was set up by Oscar-winning costume designer John Bright.
Other famous outfits auctioned off on behalf of the charity include Drew Barrymore’s costume that she wore in Ever After: A Cinderella Story; the costume that Johnny Depp wore in Sleepy Hollow, and the costume worn by Robert Downey Jr. in the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes.
