BLACK COFFEE UNDERWENT SURGERY TO FIX SPINAL CORD
Following a massive travel accident in January, DJ Black Coffee underwent spinal surgery in South America.
The Grammy Award-winning DJ shared the news during an interview on Kaya FM.
Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, said the aircraft accident took quite a while so he had time to think.
“It happened for a minute, so it gave me time to think while it was happening. I had time to think while it was happening.”
He shared that he thought he was going to die.
“I had time to hope that it’s going to be over, and I had time to think ‘okay, we’re dying. It’s over.’ Everything happened and I saw it happening.”
The DJ was on tour in South America when the local operator who normally handled his flights on the continent couldn’t offer him one of their planes. He had to settle for another plane supplied by another airline.
He felt uneasy about the matter but boarded anyway.
“I remember I said, ‘It looks old’. I even took a picture of the floor and the rugs. I just felt uneasy.
The 47-year-old fell asleep and woke up to massive turbulence. He was thrown onto the floor and once the plane landed in Uruguay, he had to undergo a five-hour-long surgery to fix his spinal cord.
After recovering in Uruguay for a week, he flew back to South Africa.
