RASSIE ERASMUS RECEIVES DOCTORATE DEGREE

The North-West University has announced that it will be awarding Rassie Erasmus with an honorary doctorate degree.

The Springboks head coach will receive the degree Philosophiae Doctor (Honoris Causa) in the discipline of Coaching Science from the university’s Faculty of Health Sciences.

According to the university, the honorary doctorate will be bestowed on Erasmus in recognition of his management of the Springboks during the 2019 and 2023 World Cup campaigns. The Springboks are the back-to-back champions.

Along with the management, his significant standing in the international rugby coaching arena, his strong drive and focus on diversity and inclusion, and his commitment to social responsibility are also being recognised.

Erasmus gave credit to everyone involved.

“I’m extremely honoured and humbled to receive this recognition but I have to give all the credit to the Springbok team and management for their resilience and determination over the last few years who made this possible.”

SA Rugby magazine reports that the university said that in addition to his visionary leadership, Erasmus has also shown an unwavering commitment to the Sport Transformation Charter.

The Charter is included in the Strategic Plan of the Department of Sport and Recreation.
