MICHELLE BOTES DIES

South African actress Michelle Botes has passed away. Botes was 63.

Known for playing the villain Cherel de Villiers in SABC3’s long-time running Isidingo, Botes died after a long battle with cancer.

De Villiers has been a regular on small screens in South Africa with big roles in series like Torings, Konings, Arende, Die Swart Kat and more recently Binnelanders.

The news of her death was confirmed by Afrikaans magazine Bruis. The publication interviewed her only a few weeks ago.

Several South Africans took to social media to express their condolences and share memories they had of her.

Actor Anton Dekker posted on social media: “I have just heard the terrible news. Gorgeous Michelle Botes, legendary actress, passed away earlier this morning. Rest in peace, dear Michelle.”

She was described as “extremely professional and always in full control of her character and the world around her character”.

News24 reports she underwent treatment that included chemotherapy, steroids, and, eventually, a stem cell transplant. In October, doctors informed her that she had two to three months to live due to an alarming rise in her cancer count.
