TUPPERWARE BIDS SA FAREWELL

It’s official, the world’s most famous food container brand will cease all operations in South Africa by 31 December 2024.

The iconic brand, headquartered in the United States, filed for bankruptcy in September 2023 after the brand struggled to maintain its foothold in an environment that presented many challenging situations.

The financial struggle only worsened over the last few years which led to the company’s closure in this country.

The company’s products were sold through independent sales agents and catalogues. None of the products were available in stores and products were often sold through popular so-called Tupperware parties.

Tupperware was founded by Earl Tupper in the early 1940s. At the time, the containers that he created were lighter, more durable and more hygienic than the traditional ceramic and glass alternatives.

The products were loved by families all over the world and soon became the number-one container company in the world.

Operations in Australia will also cease on the same date. Tupperware will continue to operate in some global markets.
