DONALD TRUMP NAMED TIME’S PERSON OF THE YEAR

Just when you think 2024 couldn’t get any better for Donald Trump, the United States president-elect has been named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2024.

The magazine’s Person of the Year was announced on Thursday. This is the second time that he has been awarded with the accolade.

The magazine said Trump has received the accolade “for marshalling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America’s role in the world”.

Soon after the announcement was made, Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Traders on the floor applauded him with his wife Melania Trump and vice president-elect JD Vance next to him.

In the background? A large display of the Time Magazine cover with his face on it.

The magazine’s award is handed out annually and has been done so for a few decades now. Trump has won it before, in 2016. Other winners in previous years include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.
