SA’S MOST GOOGLED TERMS

As a nation, we’ve been hitting our keyboards to get more info on a lot of topics this year.

Google, the world’s biggest search engine, has revealed the most searched terms or topics for South Africa during 2024.

In the news category, the disappearance of Joshlin Smith was the number one most searched topic. This was followed by the US elections and the George building collapse.

Dricus du Plessis’ fight and the new two-pot retirement system also made the list, and so did the ANC coalition and the Eastern Cape floods.

The number 10 spot was taken by the recalled peanut butter earlier this year.

Du Plessis was the number one athlete Googled by South Africans in 2024, followed by Mike Tyson, Jake Paul, and Lamine Yamal.

Other athletes who spiked our interest included Akani Simbine, Tatjana Smith, and Christian Horner.

As far as movies and TV shows go, the most Googled ones were Baby Reindeer, Griselda Blanco, Disney’s Inside Out 2, and Bad Boys 4.

Music artists or bands that we wanted to know more about included Malome Vector, Chris Brow, P Diddy, and Tyla.
