MYSTERY SURROUNDING THE TEMBISA 10 UNFOLDING

While the birth of 10 babies made local and international headlines, the mystery unfolding since the news broke is gaining momentum.

IOL reported that Gosiame Thamara gave birth to 10 babies, nicknamed the Tembisa 10, at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital earlier this month.

Shortly after the article made headlines, the local Department of Health investigated the matter as it was thought to be a new world record. At the time, it couldn't find any trace of 10 babies being born at the hospital.

After the local department of social development and even the police were asked to assist with the search, to establish where the Tembisa 10 were born and how they were doing since their birth, the matter was escalated to the various national departments.

In a statement released on Friday, the national Department of Health spokesperson, Popo Maja, said that "it cannot be that 10 or eight babies are born and that no evidence of their whereabouts or existence can be established".

In another article published on IOL, it said that officials have treated the mother poorly and that the denial of birth is to cover up severe medical negligence, something which has been denied by Maja.

So far, no one can confirm the birth of the decuplets. It is believed that the mother is in the care of the Department of Social Development at the moment.
