NEW BARBIE MADE FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC
Mattel has given itself until 2030 to make all its dolls, toys and accessories out of recycled plastic. And, judging by the latest collection called Barbie Loves The Ocean, the toy manufacturer is on track to achieve its goal.
The collection consists of three different dolls, the one thing they have in common is that their bodies are made from 90% recycled ocean-bound plastic parts. The collection also includes a Beach Shack playset and accessories, which are made from more than 90% recycled plastic.
In a statement, Richard Dickson, the president and chief operating officer of Mattel, shared the company's vision.
"This Barbie launch is another addition to Mattel's growing portfolio of purpose-driven brands that inspire environmental consciousness with our consumer as a key focus."
The company has emphasized that it has gone to great lengths to ensure the Barbie Loves The Ocean dolls and accessories look and feel exactly like their counterparts.
"We continue to learn, research new technology and innovate new ways to make our products with sustainable plastic materials. It is important to us that our products maintain the same quality and feel Barbie fans love and expect."
Mattel was founded in 1945 by married couple Ruth and Elliot Handler. Barbie and Ken were named after their daughter and son.
