It’s official, Lalela Mswane is the new Miss South Africa.

The 24-year-old from KZN was crowned on Saturday in Cape Town. The star-studded event took place at the Grand Arena, GrandWest and was hosted by Nico Panagio and Anele Mdoda.

Former titleholders including Zozibini Tunzi and Rolene Strauss also attended while the Ndlovu Youth Choir, as well as Zakes Bantwini, performed live.

News24 reports that Mswane is a model and dancer and holds a Bachelor of Law qualification from the University of Pretoria.

Not only will Mswane represent the country at other international pageants, but she will also receive R1 million in cash along with a Mercedes Benz for the year of her reign as well as a fully-furnished apartment in Sandton. The total value of her prize is R4 million.

When the announcement was made, Mswane burst into tears.

“I really wasn’t expecting it, which is why I started crying. I was so shocked because I was already so fulfilled and blessed to have made the top three. So, for me, this is genuinely just the cherry on top.”

Moratwe Masima, a qualified doctor from Gauteng and Zimi Mabunzi from the Eastern Cape were the two runners-up.
