NEW ZEALAND PRIME MINISTER CANCELS HER WEDDING

Jacinda Ardern has announced that her wedding to longtime boyfriend Clarke Gayford has been cancelled. Her announcement came as she said the latest variant of the Covid virus, Omicron, has spread like wildfire in the country.

On Sunday, Ardern announced that the country is trying its best to slow the spread, but that it’s expected to reach 1 000 cases per day in the next few weeks. This could soon be New Zealand’s worst infection rate since the start of the pandemic.

Since midnight on Sunday, New Zealand is now back on red alert level.

The Guardian reports that under red restrictions, businesses and schools remain open and domestic travel can continue, but there are mandates for mask-wearing, restrictions on gathering size, and vaccine passes are required for entry to most non-essential businesses.

Asked at a press conference whether her own wedding will still be taking, the Prime Minister confirmed that it won’t.

“My wedding won’t be going ahead but I just join many other New Zealanders who have had an experience like that as a result of the pandemic”.

Arden and Gayford share a three-year-old daughter Neve.
