ONE PERSON DEAD AFTER PLANE TURBULENCE
More than 140 people have been injured and one person has died after heavy turbulence during a flight between London and Singapore on Wednesday.
The Singapore Airlines flight had to divert to Bangkok for an emergency landing after passengers and crew members were flown around the cabin. Some people were slammed into the ceiling.
There are currently 20 people still in intensive care in Bangkok’s Samitivej Hospital with many of them suffering from spinal injuries. Nine of the patients had undergone surgery already, while five more were waiting for surgery.
The passenger who died was a 73-year-old British man. It’s believed that he died because of a heart attack.
After leaving the hospital in Bangkok, a 24-year-old man from London told Reuters that he woke up on the floor of the plane with no collection of what had happened to him. He was on his way to Bali to meet up with friends for a holiday.
“I didn’t realise what happened. I must have got hit in the head somewhere. Lots of people hit their heads. Everyone was bleeding. I am lucky to be able to walk.”
Reuters reports that photographs of the interior of the plane showed gashes in the overhead cabin panels, oxygen masks and panels hanging from the ceiling and luggage strewn around.
