PILLOW FIGHTING GRANTED PROFESSIONAL SPORT STATUS

From the bedroom to the ring, pillow fighting has taken on a whole new meaning for some athletes.

The Pillow Fight Championship (PFC) is a legit sport where two people battle out inside a ring similar to a boxing ring and they fight with… pillows.

Yes, pillows.

According to the PFC, pillow fighting is very similar to boxing, but you’re allowed to use a specialised PFC-branded pillow to hit your opponent.

So, what are the rules of pillow fighting? According to Topend Sport, as long as the fighter uses a pillow to attack, leg drops, submission holds, punching and other moves are prohibited within the match. The fighter is not allowed to hold their attacker’s arm when they decide to attack with a pillow. If that happens, they will most likely be warned or disqualified from the match.

In each fight, there are three rounds consisting of two minutes each.

The first annual PFC was held in Florida, United States this week. Sixteen men and women participated with the hope of becoming the winners of the very first PFC and winning the title belt as well as $5 000 in cash.

If you’re looking for the action supplied by boxing and mixed martial arts, but you’re not a fan of the blood or the broken teeth, then pillow fighting might just be your new favourite sport.
