SERENA WILLIAMS’ HUSBAND FIRES BACK AT ION TIRIAC FOR SAYING SHE SHOULD RETIRE DUE TO HER WEIGHT

"Safe to say no one gives a damn what Ion Tiriac thinks," was the response given by Tennis Star, Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, regarding her weight.

Ohanian and Williams tied the knot in 2017 and has since welcomed their beautiful daughter Olympia.

Ohanian fired back at retired tennis player, Ion Tiriac, for saying that Williams should retire due to her age and weight.

The 81-year-old Tiriac was ranked the eighth-best tennis player in the world in 1968. In a recent interview with Romanian journalist, Irina Pacurariu, Tiriac said Williams, who is 39-years-old, should take a step back from the sport. Tiriac said that; "At this age and the weight she is now, she does not move as easily as she did 15 years ago. Serena was a sensational player. If she had a little decency, she would retire."

However, this is not the first time that Tiriac, who is the owner of the Madrid Open competition, has criticised Williams. Back in 2018, Tiriac also stated to the German publication, Sport Bild, that she should retire. "With all due respect, 36 years old and [198 pounds]," Tiriac said.

Williams did, however, responded in a statement given to the New York Times at the time. She called Tiriac "ignorant", and added, "I always say people are entitled to their opinion. Clearly, there's more to women's tennis than me. There's a lot more, but I'll have words with him, believe me, I'll have words with him. It's an ignorant comment, and it's a sexist comment, and maybe he's an ignorant man.”

Williams has been keeping Tennis fans entertained for several years with her terrific talent in the sport.
