SNAKE SURPRISES SHOPPERS IN AUSTRALIA

Imagine going to Woolworths looking for chicken spice when a 3-metre long python sticks its head out. That’s exactly what happened to Helaina Alati while she was in the spice aisle at a Woolworths branch in Australia.

Helaina told the Associated Press that she “was in the spice aisle just looking for something to put on my chicken that night so I didn’t initially see it because it was curled up way back behind the little jars of spices. I kind of turned to my right and it poked its head out.”

As luck would have it, Helaina is a trained snake catcher, so although she said she was initially shocked, she was able to remain calm where other people would have probably reacted very differently.

“Thankfully, I have a background in snakes so I was pretty calm about it. It definitely shocked me a little bit because I wasn’t expecting it.”

Helaina casually took her phone out of her pocket and recorded a video of the snake that came within 20 centimetres of her face. She then alerted one of the employees and went to get her snake bag in her car.

Once she was back inside, she managed to catch the non-venomous snake in her snake bag and released it back into the wild.
