SOCIAL MEDIA EXPLODES OVER KFC FAMILY FEUD TWEET

What was intended to be a funny tweet to create awareness around a new episode of the South African version of the popular international game show, Family Feud, has turned into a PR nightmare for KFC.

KFC South Africa is the sponsor of the local version of the game show, hosted by Steve Harvey. Harvey is also the host of the American version.

The tweet featured a Tsonga family in their vibrant traditional colours with the caption "When you can't decide on a colour, so you wear all of them".

And that's when Twitter reacted.

The #KFCmustfall was soon trending.

KFC has issued an official statement sharing their regret over the tweet.

"We are truly sorry for the offence we have caused and the nature of the tweet we put out on Sunday. We most definitely did not intend to offend anyone.

We acknowledge that we didn't take into account the diverse socio-cultural nature of the country when developing this tweet and take full accountability for the error in judgement."

The tweet has since been deleted by KFC.
