SPECTATOR TAKES SELFIE, CAUSES CRASH AT TOUR DE FRANCE

A spectator caused a huge crash after he took a selfie during the 15th stage of the Tour de France.

With just over 125 kilometres to go, the supporter took a selfie and knocked the handlebars of Sepp Kuss from Team Jumbo-Visma. Kuss swerved to avoid hitting the spectator and knocked into his teammate Natahan van Hooydonck who fell off his bike.

Van Hooydonck’s fell caused the massive crash behind him. Twenty riders were involved in the crash, but they were all able to continue.

The crash took place between Les Gets les Portes du Soleil and Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc.

A few minutes after the crash, the official Tour de France Twitter account posted a slow-motion video of the spectator taking a selfie and Kuss trying to avoid him.

The message posted along with the video said: “Please pay attention to the riders.”

Team Jumbo-Visma who had two riders involved in the crash tweeted:

“Please be always aware when watching cycling at the side of the road.”

Another team, Team Confidis also tweeted about the incident:

“Please be careful. You don’t need a cell phone to create mind-blowing memories.”
