STARBUCKS RELEASES PORK FLAVOURED LATTES
You’ve heard of hazelnut, salted caramel and toffee-flavoured lattes, but what about braised pork?
That’s exactly the flavour of latte that Starbucks in China is planning to release to mark the Lunar New Year.
The coffee brand has described the “abundant year savoury latte” as having an “interesting” flavour.
The drink will cost consumers just under R180.
Photos of the drink made the rounds on social media and caused quite a stir. The drink consists of espresso and steamed milk, mixed with Dongpo Braised Por Flavour Sauce with extra pork sauce and pork breast meat for garnish.
On its app, Starbucks said that the drink will be available at its Reserve outlets and that “eating meat means prosperity in the coming year”.
It also said that the drink brings “traditional New York customs into coffee and creates unexpected savoury and sweet flavours”.
CNN reports that Lunar New Year is one of the biggest annual holidays in Asia. People across China travel back home during this period to celebrate with their families.
According to Chinese government data, 474 million trips were made within the mainland during this year’s travel season.
