THE PEUGEOT 2008 IS SA’S CAR OF THE YEAR

After its local launch at the beginning of the year, the Peugeot 2008 has been awarded the coveted 2021 South African Car of the Year.

The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) awarded overall second place to the Toyota Hilux Double Cab and third place went to the BMW 4 Series.

The 2021 award ceremony was the 35th annual event and it was held online due to COVID-19 regulations.

The individual category winners were:

Budget: Toyota Starlet
Compact: Hyundai Venue
Compact family: Peugeot 2008 SUV
Family: Audi A4
Premium: BMW 4 Series
Adventure: Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
Double cab: Toyota Hilux Double Cab
Performance: Porsche 911 Turbo S
New energy: Porsche Taycan
Motor enthusiast’s choice: Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The voting system was based on three pillars namely the votes from the SAGMJ members, public voting as well as an expert panel.

Once the expert panel concluded scoring, automated scoring factors that cover sales performance, segment share and value for money were applied, reports Business Tech.
