THE UNEXPLAINED BRUTAL MURDER OF A VIVIAN BOTES
Laurishka Cowley, 20, says she was watching TV when she heard her grandfather unlocking the gate as he did when he came home from work every evening. He left work every day at 3pm and the sounds of her grandfather driving into the property and unlocking the gate were not unusual, however, the panicked screams and gunshots sent chills of terror down her spine. Vivian Botes was shot 3 times, killing him instantly and leaving him in a pool of his own blood.
As Cowley dashed to see what was going on, she saw the attacker escaping and rushed to her grandfather who had already passed. The Cape town police investigation revealed that he was shot three times but have not been able to identify the killer thus far.
His family is left in a state of grief and confusion as the killers didn't shoot to rob the man and are in the dark as to the events that had occurred before the attack. The only fathomable reason was that he carried considerable amounts of cash with him for work purposes and found R5000 on him. The family is in shock as he is a modest fruit and vegetable supplier, not exactly a dangerous profession.
The only piece of information they had was provided by a neighbour who spotted four suspects, escaping in a silver Toyota Avanza. As the family identified the body at Tygerberg Mortuary, they were determined to get justice on their side.
