TWO INJURED IN SLINGSHOT RIDE AT LONDON’S WINTER WONDERLAND

Two riders were left dangling after a slingshot ride broke on take-off. The incident happened on Wednesday night at London’s Winter Wonderland.

The capsule in which the two people were contained, was hurled to the left instead of straight up. In a video showing the incident, people on the ground can be heard gasping and swearing as the capsule started spinning erratically.

It’s believed one of the bungee cords broke loose.

London’s Winter Wonderland is a theme park with food stalls located in Hyde Park. The attraction is a temporary event and happens only around Christmas time.

A spokesperson for the Winter Wonderland told the BBC that “both riders were safely escorted off the ride, checked by our on-site medics and were not injured”.

The spokesperson confirmed that safety was the highest priority and that all rides had rigorous and regular safety checks.

The London Fire Brigade was called to assist. After the incident, they tweeted:

“Firefighters were called to Winter Wonderland last night as two people were trapped inside a bungee carriage. They were freed by on-site staff and there was no action required by the Brigade.”

Winter Wonderland hasn’t closed and is still open to the public.
