TIME ANNOUNCES ICON AND PERSON OF THE YEAR

For decades, Time has announced its annual person and icon of the year. The two announcements are usually long-awaited and popular.

This year, the publication has named Michelle Yeoh as their icon of the year. The actress has been a major star in Asia for years and made her Hollywood debut in the 1997 James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies.

She went on to become a household name with other Hollywood blockbusters like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Crazy Rich Asians.

The 60-year-old Malaysian actor made her mark on the world when she starred in this year’s Indie hit Everything Everywhere All At Once.

CNN reports that Yeoh plays an overburdened wife and mother who must save the world.

Many believe that this role could be Yeoh’s ticket to the Oscars.

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been named Time’s person of the year for 2022.

NPR reports that the magazine, which has bestowed the honour annually since 2017, released the announcement on Wednesday alongside a lengthy profile of the wartime leader. It credits his stewardship of Ukraine’s defence – which has halted Russia’s advance and regained key territories – as well as its public image.
