STRANDED MOTORISTS SPEND NIGHT IN PUB

After heavy snowfall forced some motorists in England to abandon their cars, a pub threw open its doors and invited everyone to stay the night.

The Bear Inn in East Sussex provided hot drinks, log fires and even mattresses for children.

Although adults had to sleep on the floor, they were grateful for the chance to sleep in a warm place and not try to spend the night in their freezing cars.

One of the people who stayed at The Bear Inn is Dr Alexandra Loske who told the BBC everyone in the pub was “happy”.

“Many people had broken down while other cars were simply stuck and vehicles were sliding everywhere. It was quite extraordinary. Fifteen minutes of snow, that’s all it took for us to get completely stuck.”

Dr Loske was part of a group of five families who started looking for shelter. The first pub they went into eventually asked them to leave. That’s when they found out about the generosity of The Bear Inn.

The eight rooms at The Bear Inn filled up quickly, so landlady Pauline Wilson made a plan and grouped people together while offering free food and warm fires.

The snow is set to fall for the next few days with most of the United Kingdom set for a white Christmas.
