UBER CONNECT LAUNCHES IN SA
Want to send a package to someone and have it delivered immediately? Let Uber Connect do it for you – the latest delivery platform to launch as part of the Uber stable in South Africa.
Uber Connect works in areas where Uber Eats operate. It makes sense as the Uber Eats motorcycles will be used for Uber Connect. You can use the Uber app to order an Uber driver on a motorcycle to come and collect your package and deliver it for you.
It was first launched in the United States in April.
The GM for Sub-Saharan Africa, Frans Hiemstra, said on Uber's website that the company has been working tirelessly to find innovative ways to leverage their technology to make it easier than ever to send packages or items while unlocking additional earning opportunities for driver on our platform.
Naturally, there are terms and conditions, but as long as you keep them in mind, you're good to go.
Business Insider reports that the maximum weight of a package can't be more than 15kg, it has to fit comfortably into the motorcycle topbox, and the minimum delivery price is R25.
A R10 booking fee will be charged as well as a rate of R5.45 per kilometre while the platform is in its launch phase.
"We're excited to see the creative ways that users will continue to do their part by staying home, but using technology to stay connected," explains Hiemstra.
