UBER INTRODUCES CHEAPER OPTION STARTING FROM R19

There’s no doubt about it, the pandemic has changed the way we spend our money. Uber, the worldwide car hailing company, has introduced UberNAM – a cheaper option featuring hatch backs exclusively.

The minimum rate on UberNAM is R19 compared to the regular rate of R25 per trip because, according to Uber, hatchbacks are generally cheaper to run.

Frans Hiemstra, Uber’s general manager for Sub Saharan Africa, has told Business Insider that the company is aware that trends have changed across South Africa and consumers are more price sensitive.

"In these difficult times, we want to ensure we deliver more affordable options with the same door-to-door safety standards, while unlocking further opportunities for driver-partners."

The new cheaper UberNAM will be available in parts of Cape Town and Gauteng. If the cheaper option is available in your area, you will see the option along the others like UberBLACK, UberVAN and so on.

Trips to and from the airport will not be an option on UberNAM.

According to memburn, drivers who provide UberNAM trips still undergo the same background checks and screening of other drivers. Furthermore, Uber says that same account safety protocols are available in the app for these trips, while COVID-19 protocols remain the same as other trip options.
