VALENCIA GETS A YEAR’S RAIN IN 8 HOURS, FLOODS
The Spanish province of Valencia recently experienced its worst flood in the country’s history.
So far, 211 people have been killed due to the floods with many still missing.
The record-breaking downpour received a year’s worth of rain in a short eight-hour period. This caused rivers to overflow with water flowing into towns, cities and villages.
The local government has issued a level two warning out of a possible three levels. But, locals are complaining that they didn’t get enough warning.
Tensions have been rising with many residents and business owners saying the government could’ve warned them in advance as the storm should’ve been noticed by the country’s weather service.
Rescue efforts have also been criticized and many believed the province doesn’t have enough workers and have been slow to bring the army in to assist.
On Sunday, King Felipe visited the province to share his condolences but he was met with angry protestors who threw mud at him. He was escorted immediately and didn’t complete the planned tour to other towns in the province.
It’s believed that many more bodies will be discovered once water levels start to fall.
