ORIGINAL PICASSO TO BE SOLD IN SA

Thinking of adding something to your kids’ art project wall? Well, an original artwork by the famous painter Pablo Picasso is going on auction this week.

The auction will take place at Strauss & Co. in Cape Town.

“Tete” is a double-sided artwork painting. It means it has a front and a back and it’s painted on both sides.

A senior art specialist at the auctioneer has said that the auction house is very excited.

“To have an original work, and a double-sided such as this… We’re very excited about it.”

The starting bid is currently set at R5.6 million, but it’s expected to reach between R6 million and R8 million.

“Picasso was a man of huge energy. He was prolific, and he was reinventing the visual language of the 20th century throughout probably six decades in production.”

Other items to go on auction at the same time include “La Fenetre a Paris” by the Russian/French artist Marc Chagall and three oil paintings by the Scottish-born Jack Vettriano.
