FIRE STATION IN GERMANY BURNS DOWN
A brand-new fire station in Germany has burnt down. The station opened less then 12 months ago.
The fire broke out at the fire station in the town of Hesse with lots of equipment destroyed. Among the items destroyed are six emergency vehicles.
Initial estimates have suggested that the damage could be up to 24 million euros.
While most buildings in Germany are required to install fire alarm systems, the fire station didn’t have one as experts believed it was unnecessary.
The cause of the fire has been identified as one of the emergency vehicles belonging to the fire department. It contained lithium-ion batteries and an external power connection.
Nobert Fisher, the head of the State Fire Brigade Association, said he believes that was has happened will make people think and act.
“There is a lot of technology in fire stations and batteries are being charged, it would make sense to equip them with fire alarm systems.
“The fire spread at breakneck speed.”
Fisher added that it was unclear whether a fire alarm system could’ve prevented the worst.
