FORMER MISS SA WHEELCHAIR-BOUND FOR 5 MONTHS

Kerishnie Naiker has revealed that she was forced to be in a wheelchair for five months after an accident in May.

The former Miss South Africa (1997) said a tourist accidentally injured her on 1 May. She didn’t share any further details, only that she had to be hospitalized after the accident and that she was wheelchair-bound upon her release.

She shared her thoughts on Instagram.

“I could write a book about my perspective from a wheelchair but I’ll leave those stories for another time suffice it to say that life can change in an instant.”

Naiker continued saying the last six months were challenging for her.

“We cannot go through life living it in anaesthesia. As challenging as the last 6 months have been, I could not be more grateful for the gift of another day.”

After being crowned the most beautiful woman in South Africa in 1997, Naiker placed fifth at the 1998 Miss World pageant.

Naiker shared some wise words with those going through a similar situation.

“Keep abreast of medical advancements and do not expect the doctors to know everything. Honour your body, it will honour you. Maintain mental agility. By harnessing the power of your mind you can achieve anything.”
