TABLE MOUNTAIN’S CABLEWAY CLOSED DUE TO FIRE

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has announced that the cableway on Table Mountain will be closed for the weekend. This follows a fire in the parking garage.

The fire took place on Thursday.

Wahida Parker, Managing Director of the TMACC said an investigation took place to determine the damage caused to the parking garage and the administration building that is situated at the lower station.

“Based on preliminary feedback we have been advised not to resume commercial operations yet. We hope to be able to resume early in the new week but we will be able to give our next update  by midday on Monday.”

Luckily, the fire didn’t reach the machinery that operated the movement of the cable cars.

A total of 64 people had to be rescued from the top of the mountain.

Parker confirmed that all operations, including the food and beverage operations located at the foot of the mountain and the top of the mountain, will be closed to the public until further notice.
