HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR PREPAID METER IS UPDATED
For those using prepaid electricity, there’s a very important deadline around the corner.
Prepaid electricity metres that haven’t been updated will become non-operational on 24 November 2024. That is if you don’t update it before then.
This means you’ve got less than a month to check, but it should be enough time to do something about it if it hasn’t been updated yet.
How to check if your meter is up to date with your key revision number (KRN):
· Determine if your meter has been recoded from KRN1 to KRN 2. This should be done by Eskom or your municipal power provider.
· Enter the code 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416 on your prepaid meter’s keypad. Then view your status.
· If the screen displays the number 1 or KRN 1 it’s not updated and must be recoded to KRN before the deadline.
· If the screen displays KRN 2 it’s already been updated and you can carry on using it.
So, your meter needs to be re-coded. Here’s how to do it:
· Once Eskom lets you know that your area is active, get your two key change tokens from your local vendor or online.
· Enter the first 20-digit recode token and wait for it to be accepted.
· Enter the second 20-digit recode token and wait for it to be accepted.
· Enter the 20 digits of your electricity voucher to recharge on KRN version 2.
Rather be safe than sorry and stuck with no electricity.
