R7 MILLION WORTH OF CHEESE STOLEN

A cheese specialist situated in London’s famous Borough Market has reported that it has been robbed of Cheddar cheese to the value of almost R7 million.

A spokesperson for Neal’s Yard Dairy said the scam took place on 21 October.

It’s now believed that the cheese might have been shipped abroad already with the aim of selling it internationally.

London’s Met Police along with international authorities are currently investigating the matter with the hope of identifying the scammer.

The scammers posed as representatives of a French supermarket chain and ordered 22 tonnes of clothbound cheeses from the shop. The shop owner was then asked to dispatch the cheese to another warehouse in or around London.

They never paid.

It’s believed that the cheese will be sold in Russia or the Middle East as people there won’t ask questions. If it’s sold somewhere in Europe, people are more likely to ask about the cheese’s origin.

Some of the cheeses that were stolen are high-valued and award-winning which often sees them being sold for more than R1,000 per kilogram.

The public has been asked to let Neal’s Yard Dairy in London or the Met Police know if they suspect that they know where the cheese currently is or where it’s planned to be shipped off.

No cheesy comments, please. Just kidding.
