VIDEO: BRYNEVEN PRIMARY IN A STATE OF CHAOS AS PARENTS PROTEST THE HEADMISTRESS
The parents and community of Bryneven School, Johannesburg, are in an uproar over the principle of the school. Parents are protesting outside of the school in an effort to overthrow Shamin Garib who is the current headmistress. Garib was appointed at the beginning of 2017 and parents claim that the situation in the school has been getting worse since the headmistress started her position at Bryneven Primary School. The parents have conducted investigations into Garib's actions as headmistress and have found cases of fraud, nepotism, mismanagement and victimisation of teachers.
The investigation revealed that certain members of staff were being paid over and above their salaries, the principle was misusing the school fees paid by parents and teachers were grossly unhappy at the school causing many to resign. The constant changing of teachers in the classroom is a major disruption for the children. Many parents have also reported cases of bullying to no avail or action from the headmistress.
The Gauteng Department of Education has been notified of the situation and parents are waiting in the hall to be addressed by the Gauteng MEC for Education. The parents are now anxiously awaiting the announcement of the decision the Department of education has come to regarding the consequences of these allegations. Tensions are rising in the school hall where parents are airing their concerns and questioning the appointment of Garib as headmistress regardless of previous allocations of fraud.
