WIKIPEDIA’S TOP 25 PAGES FOR 2023 RELEASED

The world has shown a massive interest in artificial intelligence, people who died this year and the growing power of Indian users. That’s according to Wikipedia.

The search engine released its top 25 most-viewed pages for 2023. So far this year, the website has received 84 billion page views. The website is run by Wikimedia, a nonprofit organisation.

The page about ChatGPT was the page with the fastest-growing user base hitting more than 49.4 million page views.

Anusha Alikhan, chief communications officer at the Wikimedia Foundation, said AI and ChatGPT sparked people’s interest this year.

“It’s clear that people wanted to better understand the history and the context behind Chat GPT’s technology as they experimented with it.”

ChatGPT is trained to use Wikipedia data when answering questions. They don’t charge OpenAI for the use of its content.

Other pages that were visited during 2023 are the 2023 Cricket World Cup, the Indian Premier League, and the movie Oppenheimer.

The audiences that made the biggest impact on this year’s list were India and Southeast Asia.

“Right now we have about 4,700 active English Wikipedia volunteer editors in India. That total puts them behind only the United States and the United Kingdom. India has a rich media environment and information technology sector.”

2023 was the first time on record that Cricket-related articles made an appearance in Wikipedia’s top 25.
