WORLD’S BEST BARS ANNOUNCED
When it comes to knowing a thing or two about what it takes to become a superb watering hole, the city of London can teach the world a lot.
The annual World’s 50 Best Bars list was released and London holds not only the top spot in the world but number two as well.
The event was held at London’s Roundhouse after a Zoom version was held last year due to the pandemic. This year the new omicron variant meant that many attendees were forced to undergo Covid tests and isolate before they were able to join the festivities on the night.
Connaught Bar in London’s swanky Mayfair won the title for the second year in a row. In the awards’ 13-year history, only three bars have been able to do so. According to CNN, the bar’s speciality is its Martini trolley, where bartenders give a personalised drinks experience to guests.
After being last year’s highest new entry, Alex Kratena’s Tayer + Elementary on London’s Old Street took second place while basement bar Kwant, also in Mayfair, dropped to number 31 this year.
This year there were 17 countries represented in the top 50 with 18 new entries spread across Australia, India, Mexico, Russia, Argentina, Sweden, Spain, China and the United Arab Emirates.
