AUSTRALIA HIT BY STORM ALFRED
Australia’s Queensland state has been hit hard by Storm Alfred.
The tropical cyclone left hundreds of thousands of people without power on Sunday as heavy rains and damaging winds sparked flood warnings.
The Gold Coast city was hit the worst when the “tropical low” hit land. Before it reached Queensland, the tropical storm was categorised as a cyclone for 16 days.
Millions of residents of both Queensland and neighbouring New South Wales had to prepare for the worst as the storm was approaching.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the “situation in Queensland and northern New South Wales remains very serious due to flash-flooding and heavy winds”.
But, he warned that it wasn’t over yet and the “worst is yet to come”.
“Heavy rainfall, damaging wind gusts, and coastal surf impacts are expected to continue over the coming days”.
News24 reports that the nation’s Bureau of Meteorology said heavy rainfall that could spark flash flooding was developing on Sunday and could impact Brisbane as well as the Queensland regional centres of Ipswich, Sunshine Coast and Gympie.
