Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has been arrested in Brazil.
According to reports, the 91-year-old was arrested for illegally carrying a gun while boarding a plane.
Local police said in a statement on Thursday that they found an undocumented LW Seecamp .32 gun in Ecclestone’s luggage during an X-ray screening.
Ecclestone is married to Brazilian-borne Fabiana Ecclestone and was on his way to Switzerland on a private plane when he was arrested.
The BBC reports that Ecclestone acknowledged owning the gun, but said he was unaware it was in his luggage at the time.
The former F1 boss was taken to a facility in Viracorpos airport in Campinas, Sao Paula after he was arrested. Soon after paying bail, he was released.
Ecclestone then continued on his journey flying to Switzerland on a private plane.
It’s not clear whether he was travelling alone or if anyone was with him at the time.
