BUILDING WITH BANKSY MURAL FOR SALE
If you’re in the market for commercial real estate and you’re a massive Banksy fan, there’s a property in Bristol, England with your name on it.
The artwork named “Well Hung Lover” was painted on the side of a residential building in 2006.
Well-Hung Lover shows a naked man clinging to a windowsill while a man in a suit looks out, searching for the naked man who’s possibly the lover of his wife standing next to him.
Because it’s private property, the local council wasn’t allowed to remove it, like they’ve done with various other Banksy murals. The residents of the building voted to keep the mural.
The building will be put up for auction in February with prospective buyers having the chance to bid on a 250-year lease. The guide price of just over R16 million has been given.
One of the terms associated with the purchase is that “the purchase will be required to accept a restrictive covenant in the lease ensuring that the image cannot be removed from the building”.
Although the Banksy artwork has to stay put, the new owner won’t have an obligation to maintain it.
