FAST CAR REACHES NO 1 ON ITUNES CHART

A massive 36 years after it was released, the song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman reached number one on the iTunes chart.

The song, originally recorded by Chapman in 1988, got a country makeover when Luke Combs released his version last year.

Joining Combs on stage at the Grammys this year, Chapman made a rare performance as they sang the song together.

Chapman’s performance was a surprise to viewers at home and those in attendance in Los Angeles over the weekend, as she wasn’t part of the official list of performers announced for the event.

The duet received a standing ovation and delivered major cheers from the audience.

News24 reports that in a video about Fast Car for the ceremony, Combs said: Tracy Chapman is such an icon and one of the greatest artists… It’s a full-circle moment for me. Just to be associated with her in any way is super humbling for me.”

Although Combs didn’t win a Grammy, he won Single of the Year at the 2023 Country Music Awards for his rendition of the song.
