FAST CAR WINS CMA AWARD

Back in 1988 when the song Fast Car hit the charts, no one could have imagined that it would happen again 35 years later.

On Wednesday, Tracy Chapman’s song won Song of the Year at the 2023 Country Music Awards. Country singer Luke Combs recently did a cover of the song and it became a massive hit again with his version reaching number one on the Country Airplay chart.

The song reaching number one on the chart meant Chapman became the first black woman to top the chart since it was started in 1990.

Chapman was present at the awards but a statement was read by Sarah Evans, the category’s presenter, on her behalf.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t join you all tonight. It’s truly an honour for my song to be newly recognised after 35 years of its debut. Wow. Thank you to the CMAs and a special thanks to Luke and to all of the fans of Fast Car.”

The same cover by Combs also won him a CMA Award in the category Single of the Year.
