Lonely Planet has just revealed its 50 top travel destinations for next year. If you’re thinking about travelling, make sure this list is in your hands when searching for places to explore and experience.
The travel publication has added more categories to its lists. This includes top countries, regions, cities, sustainable travel destinations, and best-value locations.
The number one country suggested by Lonely Plant? Mongolia. The country was chosen for its “wide open spaces, adventure activities, and distinctive culinary and musical culture”.
Earlier this year, Mongolia declared 2023 to 2025 the “years to visit Mongolia”. The country has even eased entry conditions for travellers from other countries and has built a new airport.
St. Lucia, Croatia, Benin, Uzbekistan and Mexico managed to make it onto the list and in the top 10 countries list.
Nairobi has made it to the top of the list of the top cities to visit in 2024. The Kenyan capital is loved for its “unique rhythms, an impressive array of locally inspired restaurants, and a steady rotation of arts and culture venues”.
The fact that Nairobi National Park is just a short drive from the city has also added to its popularity.
Other cities also listed in the top 10 include Paris and Prague. The Czech capital has taken a different approach to most other countries by promoting “slow tourism and attractions away from the city centre.”
