MAN SUCKED INTO PLANE ENGINE AT MILAN AIRPORT
A man has died at the Milan Bergamo Airport in Italy after he was sucked into a plane engine and died.
Flights were grounded for several hours as police had to investigate the scene.
It’s believed the man, who wasn’t onboard the plane or affiliated with the airline, ran onto the tarmac and was sucked into the engine of the place. The plane was preparing for take-off.
The plane, an Airbus A319, belongs to Spanish carrier Volotea. It was travelling from Milan to Spain.
Soon after the incident, the airport released a statement saying all operations were suspended for two hours “due to a problem that occurred on the taxiway”.
“SACBO (the airport operator) advises that due to an aircraft grounded on the runway due to technical problems, operations are suspended. Departing flights are delayed, and arriving flights may be diverted or cancelled until reopened.”
Italian media reported that the man, believed to be 35 years old, “entered the wrong way near the terminal, abandoned his car and started running towards the inside”.
Once inside the arrivals area located on the ground, he’s believed to have opened a security door that leads directly to the aircraft parking area, where he then gained access to the tarmac.
