SABC TO BROADCAST BOKS TEST
In honour of the 30th anniversary of the Springboks' first Rugby World Cup victory, the SABC will broadcast the test match between the Springboks and Italy on Saturday, 12 July.
This is thanks to a partnership between MultiChoice, which owns SuperSport and the SABC.
“Whether in a township, village, or city, every citizen should be able to relive the spirit of 1995 — a spirit of hope, unity, and excellence,” said SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli.
“We therefore extend our deepest appreciation to the South African Rugby Union (SARU) and SuperSport for enabling this collaborative agreement.”
The special occasion marks South Africa's win of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, when the hosts, the Springboks, beat New Zealand 15–12 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
It’s also a special celebration for SuperSport as a stand-alone channel.
“This year also marks 30 years of SuperSport as a stand-alone channel, and we are proud to share this milestone with the most successful rugby nation in men’s Rugby World Cup history.” SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha said.
Ticket prices to Springboks games have been a growing concern for many South Africans, as they accuse the South African Rugby Union of being greedy. Many South African fans pointed out that there were noticeable empty seats at both the Barbarians and Italy matches.
