MATRIC EXAM DATES FINALISED

The Department of Basic Education has finally published the public school matrix exam dates for 2020.

Minister Angie Motshekga gazetted the dates on the 11th of August in Government Gazette 43609.

With public schools still currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, matric learners have had to wait for the Department to reschedule their final exams.

The exams will start on the 5th of November and conclude on the 15th of December – the same day that the rest of the grades will finish their school year.

Polity reports that the department said the later-than-normal start to the exams would allow schools and pupils enough time to complete the curriculum, while leaving sufficient time for revision and study.

The revised school calendar for 2020 was published last week.

While public schools are closed for four weeks following Cabinet’s decision to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus, private schools were allowed to continue with their education.

Public schools are set to open again on the 24th of August, with some schools already getting approval to open a week earlier and for classes to commence on Monday the 17th of August.

Meanwhile the Minister has recently dismissed claims that her family is involved with personal protective equipment (PPE) tenders after it was rumoured that her husband, Mathole Motshekga was involved in supplying sanitizer to schools.
