RUGBY’S 2025 AWARDS SCORED HUGE

This year’s World Rugby Awards shone a bright light on stars from across the globe, celebrating brilliance in both experience and up‑and-coming talent. At the top, Malcolm Marx (South Africa) was crowned Men’s 15s Player of the Year, a well-deserved nod to his outstanding season.

Emerging talent was also front and centre: Fabian Holland of New Zealand won Breakthrough Player of the Year, while Santiago Pedrero (Chile) ran away with the Men’s 15s Try of the Year for a breathtaking effort against Samoa.

While many believed the honour should’ve gone to Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus, the England women’s team coach John Mitchell took home Coach of the Year, praised for his leadership and tactical nous.

On the referee front, Hollie Davidson (Scotland) earned the Referee Award, highlighting how vital fair adjudication is to the sport.

Women’s rugby wasn’t overlooked either. Sophie de Goede (Canada) was named Women’s 15s Player of the Year, while Maia Joseph (New Zealand) took home the Women’s Try of the Year.

The accolades also recognised rugby’s heritage: Dan Carter received a Special Merit Award for his long-lasting impact on the game.

All told, the 2025 awards celebrated a blend of grit, flair, and global talent.
